The team went through a Discovery phase where they explored Egyptian culture, benchmarked other museum experiences, conducted a range of user interviews for both locals &amp; tourists and visited the GEM site to absorb its character as well as understand its layout. The team made sense of the findings, created key guiding insights, crafted a range of user journeys and started to define core GEM experiences.

Our ambition was to create an air of wonder in appreciation of the vast number of incredible artefacts, many of which will be brought together and shown to the public for the first time. And to build anticipation and intrigue that will inform locals about the GEM experience on their doorstep, redefining what a museum means as a destination for Egyptians and tourists alike.

<h2>Landing</h2>
For tangerine the vision was Revival. GEM will attract visitors from all corners of the world, as well as local visitors, for whom a walk around the gardens and outdoor eating needed to live up to the key user modes of: Relive, Refresh, Relax and Re-engage. As a final deliverable we crafted and built a tangible user experience blueprint and design manual. It included a range of memorable signature moments that are authentic, connected and ownable by the GEM brand and just as importantly a set of in-between moments that glued the entire experience together.

I‘ve actually been struggling to understand what  is meant by ‘Customer experience‘, but I now fully understand it and value the input of consultants who can map out a vision for it and truly shape a persons experience when visiting a place.

We were charged by Hassan Allam, the provider and operator of services and facilities at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), to define the visitor experience of one of the world’s most anticipated museums, the Grand Egyptian Museum, which will house the treasures and artefacts of one of history’s oldest and most revered civilisations.

LG’s thirst for new creative thinking was voracious in the early 1990’s, and the role of outsourced design teams was to stimulate new thinking, introduce new ideas, and approach projects in a new way with a with fresh mind.
Over successive years tangerine has helped LG appreciate that design can do more than assist their internal design teams to design the right solutions for international markets. Our role expanded to encompass insight, ethnographic and design research to drive innovation and strategy projects, and product visual identity development to guide the design of products for specific sectors and across different geographies.

<h2>Leaping</h2>
Through insight, ethnographic and design research  we have helped LG to better understand the European market so that they can develop the right kinds of products to appeal to target demographics. Steering clear of focus groups, which tend to dwell on the negatives and can tell you what people don’t like, instead of helping to identify unarticulated needs that will move a brand forward.
Over our 30 year relationship we have undertaken multiple innovation, insight research and design strategy projects looking at how to successfully distinguish and shape LG’s ranges in key European target markets. for air conditioner, vacuum cleaner, refrigerator, oven and hob, and mobile phone products.

<h2>Landing</h2>
Our stand-out design for LG’s Art Cool home air-conditioning unit, which was launched in 2003, introduced an innovative picture frame format including a range of user changeable artworks. This has gone on to become a best-seller for LG and continues to sell well today.
As LG&#8217;s needs have developed over time so has our role, which has extended into innovation mapping, design research and future vision setting. This includes the identification of future R&amp;D opportunities in key markets which has led to scenario planning and design visions for new UX and product concepts. We’ve recently been helping LG&#8217;s Innovation Groups to set a future vision for how their core technologies can be utilised in target B2B business sectors such as banking, automotive and aviation.
One popular project focused on user-centred design and market fit for European domestic refrigerators.  An LG executive relocated to London from South Korea to take part in the European creative research process which encompassed ethnographic research with end-users and interviews with professional chefs in key European countries. This gave LG an insight into the differences and convergences in customer attitudes, behaviours and cultural preferences between neighbouring territories. The result defined the core product functionality, including better features at a lower cost, and enabled LG to plan future ranges from entry-level to flagship products.

Co-working with tangerine, we started to break away from functional design to emotional design. We began to focus much more on the user’s perspective than the product styling.

In the early 1990s Lucky Goldstar was a relatively unknown brand internationally who were looking for really bright sparks to help them design products that would better appeal to Western consumers under the new LG brand. They chose tangerine.
What started as multiple design projects for individual design teams quickly grew into a strategic design partnership with tangerine supporting LG in defining the Product Visual Identity for its audio division, and completing in-depth insight research projects to help them develop iconic and best-selling ranges in the white good and home air conditioning markets.
30 years on, we are still working with LG&#8217;s innovation centre and numerous manufacturing divisions helping them to find new innovative applications for their OLED screens and other leading technologies

Safety is at the heart of Spacetalk’s smartphones; giving family members peace of mind with location tracking, SOS, and instant messaging to pre-approved contacts. For their first product, they had developed a purpose-built kids smartwatch supported by a simple app for parental control management and location tracking.
Their first generation watch and app was well received in the market and hit a sweet spot with kids aged 6-8. Our challenge with the Adventurer watch was to create a truly desirable and engaging product that would work well and appeal to both parents and children aged 5-12. It needed to be fun, fashionable and technologically advanced, while still safe and secure.

We set the context of the design challenge through a series of calls where we discussed technical requirements, competitors and presented a wide range of initial concept directions. The design needed to be aesthetically pleasing and engaging, at the same time as being robust and easy to use.
Our holistic approach ensured that every dimension of the product and app experience were developed to be on-brand, design-led and visually and functionally integrated.
Multiple concepts of the watches’ form, method of strap attachment and material selection were generated, with a landscape-oriented screen being adopted for optimal viewing of content.
Graphic icons for the watch UI and app, that are stylistically right for parents and kids were created, and the whole user experience was designed to enhance and extend its functionality and improve usability.

Spacetalk Adventurer was designed from the ground up. The overall product form, user experience and design language give strong differentiation in a crowded market. The distinctive &#8216;wink’ of the watch face design, which disguises the camera and speaker grille, has become a signature element of their design DNA.
The completely new app is fun and family orientated, offering engaging content and secure features. Designed in collaboration with our UX designers and Spacetalk’s development team, the end result makes connections “richer” and the use of the app “stickier”.
A host of new features were incorporated into the design; including improved parental controls, SOS feature, chat and instant messaging, rewards and goals setting, fitness and activity, and location tracking.

Adventurer was designed and developed from the ground up by a cross-disciplinary design team from Australia and the UK with leading industrial design team, Tangerine Design, directing the product design from their offices in the UK. The device is a huge advancement for the kids connected wearables category, building on what we have learned from the phenomenal success of our original Spacetalk Kids connected smartwatch, and incorporating major industrial design, hardware and software engineering breakthroughs and enhancements into a high-quality device.

Australian based Spacetalk had enjoyed success with the launch of their first kids wearable smartphone and had plans to develop their product range and grow the business internationally.
What started as the design of a next-generation wearable became a partnership covering a new series of products, UX and UI development of the watch interface and the app.
We are now actively engaged with Spacetalk supporting them with design strategy and design to extend their global reach and expand their portfolio.

Together, the design teams in London and Seoul carried out extensive consumer and retail insight research; visiting stores, interviewing customers and retail staff and collaborating with visual merchandising experts to gather valuable consumer intelligence.
We identified that the company needed a new guiding design strategy, to shift Innisfree’s brand identify from a regional concept that was too closely linked to Jeju island – a volcanic island in the Korean Strait – to something bigger and more globally relevant in the mind of their customers. tangerine proposed a new proposition ‘Real Natural Living’, which communicates Innisfree is not just a natural beauty brand but a lifestyle choice.
The new flagship store had to reflect this shift in strategic direction, and we planned the zoning and designed the visual merchandising to choreograph their experience and change the pace of discovery as customers move throughout the store.

The new direction permeates every dimension of the store experience; from how present and new ranges are organised, encountered and displayed, through to the choice of all interior fixtures and the design of the exterior architecture.
Bespoke designed floor-to-ceiling fragrance diffusers give customers an innovative way to rapidly test and select scents before purchase, and the design of visual merchandising changes form and character to enhance zoning and discovery.
The company’s environmentally sensitive outlook is tangibly communicated through the Green Café, where the food and beverage menu features fresh natural ingredients used in Innisfree’s natural skincare ranges.
Bespoke seating booths and chairs made from 100% reclaimed plastic and responsibly harvested wood, provide sustainable cafe seating.  And real tree trunk columns break up the seating areas, to create a natural sanctuary for diners.

The store journey introduces customers to Innisfree in a captivating and immersive way. It has become a multi-sensory and guided experience where shoppers can more easily find what they are looking for,  browse and discover more about the essential ingredients and products that best suit their skin type, desired performance or lifestyle.
Merchandising walls and displays form part of the architectural expression of the interior, enhancing the shopping experience and changing the pace or communicating purpose.  The whole ambiance is clean and natural but also confident and powerful, expressing both the subtle and yet powerful dynamics of nature.
Discovery of natural ingredients used in Innisfree’s beauty products within the Green café, reinforces in the mind of the customer the benefits that are derived from the brand’s expertly crafted natural products and the Innisfree lifestyle, and commitment to a sustainable and more natural future.

Our new flagship store in Seoul helps to position Innisfree as a lifestyle SPA brand with an international appeal. tangerine is helping us to create a blueprint for a unique retail experience that’s underpinned by an effective digital infrastructure.

Innisfree is Korea’s no.1 natural beauty brand and part of the AmorePacific family. Their CEO had set the ambition to become a global SPA brand and they approached us with the brief to design a new flagship store, that would help them to explore a future direction for the whole business. With the key to this fast-retailing market being able to react rapidly to changing consumer tastes and have the infrastructure in place to respond immediately.
We helped Innisfree to create a unique customer experience through the total design of an entire flagship store, from the redefinition of the proposition to make it appealing for Global markets, to the design of a distinctive, organised and relevant store experience that celebrated natural ingredients and innovated in the way that customers experience them.

Popular Nordic airline, Finnair, approached us with a view to completely revamping their ground-to-air customer experience. A large part of this project involved turning their Non-Schengen customer lounge into a contemporary experience that made travelling just as enjoyable as the destination.

Through early user-testing our team established that existing 3D printers on the market were often far too complex to use for many users.  It became our ambition to streamline the physical and digital processes and make the product more intuitive in use for the consumer.
Following the launch of Sindoh’s initial range of consumer and prosumer 3D printers, we built on the knowledge we had gained and went on to design Sindoh’s larger FFF and SLA printers and developed the product visual identity to work for numerous B2B markets.

As a relative newcomer in the 3D printer market, Sindoh’s potential customer base was rapidly expanding.  The company needed to demonstrate not only the benefit of their products but also their commitment to the sector and the capabilities of their organisation. The showroom we designed also had to flex enough to grow and adapt as new partnerships were forged and customer base developed.
The challenge was to create a showroom that would appeal to a wide-ranging audience, from suppliers and VIPs to educational groups and 3D printing enthusiasts.  Critically, through our strategic design partnership we had a clear understanding of Sindoh’s overall strategy and were able to articulate this quickly and comprehensively through the new showroom design

The first 3D printer was launched to critical acclaim at CES 2015 in Las Vegas and went on to win a Red Dot Award for design.
Numerous ranges of consumer to prosumer 3D printers have launched and are successfully being sold via Amazon and through Sindoh’s growing sales network.  And Sindoh continues to pioneer in the development of SLA and FFF technologies and grow its penetration in specialist B2B markets.
The interactive 3D printing showroom has helped Sindoh to establish business relationships with key strategic partners, through the storytelling of the strengths of the company and demonstration of its innovative manufacturing.

By 2030 the 3D printer market is estimated to grow to $40billion and drive the advancement of faster design, rapid manufacture and launch of new types of industries and products. Sindoh was quick to spot the opportunity that 3D printing represented and invested heavily in R&amp;D to develop it own solutions and technologies.
Our long-term strategic partnership with Sindoh placed us in pole position to help them introduce new ranges of 3D printers; from entry-level home printers to professional versions, to designing a bespoke new exhibition to help them market their capabilities at their headquarters building.

The project started with us immersing ourselves in Finnish culture, lapping up all that Finland had to offer. We scoured the streets of Helsinki and the heritage of Nordic design for inspiration. We consulted Finnish people to understand what really mattered to them and assessed the qualities and constraints of the site to identify opportunities. Melding all that we had learnt, a vision for the customer experience began to form.
We evolved the vision with Finnair in a snow covered lodge on the edge of Lapland. On returning to Helsinki, we hosted an event with Finnair Platinum customers to gather feedback and let them have a say in the direction we took.

Our immersion culminated in a vision we called “Nordic Freedom”; incorporating a modern Nordic look and approach to space that gave customers the choice of how to use their time in the lounge. We turned the constraints of the site into opportunities to craft a distinctive environment for the passengers and to reduce operational costs for the Finnair.

Nordic Freedom was brought to life with a lounge that’s divided into different pockets, each aligned to customer needs and activities, while maintaining the spirit of Finland throughout. The simple, clean, minimalist approach to design is pure-Nordic, and the mixed textures and natural materials give a homely, warming feel. Bars, catering, and even an authentic Finnish sauna ensured travellers could embrace all that Finland has to offer.
